Grob Aerospace to Partner Development of New Learjet 85

January 31st, 2008

Bombardier and Grob Aerospace have announced that Grob – with its wide experience in the use of composites – will play a significant role in developing Bombardier’s new all-composite Learjet 85 mid-size business aircraft. Grob Aerospace has been producing composite primary training aircraft for decades and pioneered the industry’s first all-composite light business jet, the spn.

The Learjet 85’s design team is predicting a high cruise speed of Mach 0.82 and transcontinental range of up to 3,000 nautical miles (5,556 km). According to Bombardier, the new aircraft, which is a “clean-sheet” design, will provide a larger, more comfortable cabin than any existing midsize aircraft, with a “stand up” cabin for eight passengers.

Grob Aerospace will develop the primary and secondary structures of the all-composite structure and co-operate on the systems integration. Learjet’s designers will work closely with a team of engineers at Grob Aerospace where the first three prototype aircraft will be built.
