Tracplus Global Announces “Truly Portable” Iridium Tracking

New Zealand-based company TracPlus Global has announced support for NAL Research’s range of portable tracking terminals.

At only 170 grams and measuring 112 mm long, the pocket sized NAL9601 is the smallest and lightest portable tracking product currently available. “The NAL9601 is not only smaller and lighter than competing products, it also includes a battery pack which makes it a truly portable unit, with no need for power cables that represent a potential hazard in the cockpit environment” said TracPlus’ CEO, Chris Hinch. “The tiny form factor makes it incredibly attractive to aircraft owners, as it requires no modifications to the aircraft to be installed, and can be easily moved from one aircraft to another. With our new airtime pricing and a very competitive price for the NAL9601, we believe this is the portable tracking unit that our customers have been waiting for,” said Hinch.

The NAL9601 can transmit an encrypted position report as often as every four seconds across the global Iridium satellite network to TracPlus’s data centre, where it is securely delivered to users of TracPlus’s global tracking service. The NAL9601 includes an integrated distress switch and, when permanently installed, will support the new MDT860 messaging terminal. The NAL9601 is certified to MIL-STD-810F.

If external power to the unit is removed, it is capable of transmitting up to 1,000 messages—equivalent to one message every three minutes for 50 hours—utilising only its internal battery. The NAL9601 is available through TracPlus Global for $2,250 +GST.

Tracplus Global Reduces Prices

TracPlus Global has announced key changes to its pricing model that will deliver significant savings to existing and new TracPlus customers alike.

“At a time when our customers are facing continually increasing costs for all aspects of their operations, it is nice to be able to deliver a little relief by announcing a price decrease,” said TracPlus CEO, Chris Hinch.

According to Hinch, the growth in numbers of customers around the world using TracPlus has allowed the company to improve its purchasing power and it is passing these savings on to customers. At the same time, per-message costs for Iridium and Inmarsat networks have been significantly reduced.

From June 1 2008, all monthly and airtime charges for the global tracking service will be charged to customers in American dollars and converted to local currency at the time of invoicing. This will allow customers to see exactly how their tracking costs are determined.

“For the majority of our customers, this will mean a 35% reduction in airtime charges and even greater savings for users of our new Iridium SBD-based terminals. Like our ongoing investment in product development, this pricing review reflects our total commitment to deliver the best, most reliable and cost effective global tracking solution possible,” said Hinch.
