January 28–29. “Classics of the Sky” Tauranga City Airshow. Timed to coincide with Auckland Anniversary Weekend, the Tauranga City Air-show will be a major air-show event. Attractions will include aircraft from the RNZAF, a large range of warbird aircraft from heavy-metal piston aircraft to jets, aerobatic display aircraft, civilian aerobatic teams and helicopters. In addition, there are expected to be more than 100 aircraft from the Sport Aircraft Association of New Zealand in attendance.

March 4. Matamata Airshow and Carnival. Numerous flying displays, music and cultural events, military re-enactments and military vehicle displays, and more. Low entry prices (only $10 per adult; children under 16 free)—and free parking. Proceeds from the show will go towards the Matamata, Morrinsville and Te Aroha community hospitals. April 2–8. Silver Fern Air Race from Hong Kong to Christchurch. This major air race event is open to high-performance turboprops, corporate jets, airliners, and military and private aircraft. April 6–8. Warbirds Over Wanaka International Airshow. This biennial major event in the New Zealand aviation calendar will take place once again during Easter weekend at Wanaka Airport. Organisers say they are expecting a large turnout of aircraft, and the event will also feature numerous market stalls, a wine and food expo, and children’s facilities and entertainment.
